Bill C. Ray
 |
Growing up in Juneau,
Alaska in the 50’s, Bill C. Ray developed a broad interest in all forms of
Alaskan imagery. He was raised on a steady diet of Fred Machetanz and Eustice
Ziegler paintings, native Alaskan totem poles and carvings, and the ever-present
landscape of mountains and water right outside his door.
Some of the very first artworks Bill C.
Ray sold were pen and ink fish illustrations for the Alaska State Museum. Since
then he has spent more than three decades producing an enormous body of work in
oil, acrylic, charcoal, wood, stone, clay, and polymer resins. From sculptural
fish popping out of toasters to huge murals of whales, eagles, and totemic
legends, Ray has run the gamut. His worked has been exhibited in museums and
galleries in the U.S. and Europe, and has been acquired for numerous public and
private collections. Since 1991, he has lived and worked in Berlin, Germany
where he continues to paint and sculpt his personal vision of Alaska. |
