Carlie Beads

Carlie Beads originated in Skagway, Alaska, in 1996. Then, I met a cute Canadian on a grocery run to Whitehorse and now my jewelry is made in Whitehorse, Yukon!

I have been making contemporary style bead jewelry since 1996. As a child I was inspired by bits of antique jewelry found at farm auctions.  Some of the long used jewelry was usually not in one piece, so the fun was in building a new treasure from the old.

Later in searching for more earth tone jewelry I began stringing beads into bracelets, necklaces and earrings.  Stones, pearls and European glass beads in colors and textures inspired by Mother Nature’s paintbrush create the color palettes in one of my series that I call, “Alaska Colors Collection”.

Along side beads I also collect stories. I love the magic of how stories reflect our surroundings and lives, and I enjoy putting the stories behind the beads in my collection, as much as making the jewelry itself.

We divide our time between Haines and Skagway, Alaska and Whitehorse, Yukon. My husband Mario, and kids, Brodie, Levi and Ruby help keep me busy working and playing, sometimes planting an impossible garden, and always reminding me to just enjoy the day.
