The story behind "Old Tin Roof Jewelry"... Yukon artist, Esther Winter has combined the beautiful richness of recycled antique roof tin with other materials such as copper and sterling silver to create this unique jewelry. The antique tin roof was originally an “Imperial Gasoline Can”. In the 1920's, the can was flattened and recycled to make a roof for an historic log cabin. This cabin, situated on the artist's property in Mayo, Yukon was leaning precariously and had to be dismantled. Esther saved the tin roof and has recycled it a second time in this beautiful jewelry! The names chosen for the Old Tin Roof jewelry pieces are names of actual women who lived in the Mayo area during the early 1900's. Please Note: Our jewelry is handcrafted and may vary slightly from one another. Each piece of antique tin is unique which we feel adds to its appeal. |

New Book about the Home of Alaska's Governors
White House of the North by Carol Sturgulewski $24.95A century's worth of legends and history surround the Alaska Governor's House, one of the oldest governors' homes in the United States. Its past is a collage of glamorous balls, wartime austerity, fine art, backyard baseball, delicate antiques, leaky pipes, boisterous children, visiting dignitaries and even a bigamist governor. Author Carol Sturgulewski interviewed governors, first ladies and friends from every administration since 1925, supplemented by more than 75 historic photos and documents dating back to the 1890s. White House of the North: Stories from the Alaska Governor's Mansion is an intimate and detailed view of Alaska's best known home. |
