Jonathan Bottoms
May 5, 1947 – November 4, 2001
Anyone who has seen his art work can attest to the fact that Jon Bottoms was an artist. Yet those of us who knew him well understand that his artistry transcended his skill with a pen, pencil, or brush. It came from his very soul. It was inherent in the way in which he viewed the world and could be recognized in almost everything he did. As a husband and soul mate, as a son and father, as a brother and uncle, and as a friend, he has touched us all, perhaps more profoundly than he ever realized in life. Beyond his talent, many of us will remember him for his gentle nature, sincerity, insight, wit, and those little things that made him happy. We will think of him when Ollie says to Stan “Here’s another fine mess you’ve gotten me into!” We will think of him when we hear Beethoven’s Fifth, the Ink spots, or the White Album. We will think of him when we see a yellow Van Gogh painting or when the home team wins the game. But most importantly, we will remember him forever with love. It’s all we can give him now and quite possibly, all he ever wanted.
