The Shorefast Story

Katrina Woolford Pearson has more than two decades of experience as a bookseller, author events coordinator, and publicist in Alaska. She also serves as the Publications Chair for the Gastineau Channel Historical Society in Juneau, a board member of the Friends of the Juneau-Douglas City Museum, a board member of  49 Writers, an organizing faculty member of the North Words Writers Symposium, and is the owner of Taku Graphics, an Alaska art and book distribution company. Her roots in the state run deep, from a childhood growing up in Juneau, to her grandfather who was a Territorial Fish & Wildlife Officer in the 1940s, and her great-grandfather who was a member of the Territorial Legislature. Katrina also spent several years in Fairbanks, as manager of the farthest north bookstore in the U.S.

It was in Fairbanks that she met Colleen Mondor, a fellow bookseller and graduate student at the University of Alaska, where she earned a degree in Northern Studies. Colleen is the author of The Map of My Dead Pilots: The Dangerous Game of Flying in Alaska, which was a 2012 NPR Summer Pick by Nancy Pearl. A reviewer for the ALA’s Booklist and the Los Angeles Review of Books, she is also an aviation reporter for the state's largest newspaper, Alaska Dispatch News. Colleen has been writing about and researching polar exploration and its literature for more than a decade. She owns an aircraft leasing company with her husband, a longtime Alaskan pilot, that is based in Two Rivers. You can follow her on twitter via @chasingray.
